I was graduated at the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical University in Szeged Hungary in 1977. I started working at the Department of Ophthalmology in Szeged and specialized in ophthalmology in 1981. I defended my PhD work on „Early diagnosis of glaucoma” in 1991 and my DSc on „Blood circulation of the eye and orbit in normal and pathological conditions” in 2003. I have been working in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary since 1992, and I have made my habilitation there in 1997.  I was director of the Department from 2004 till 2014. I have got the Fellow of European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) Diploma in 2014 and I made my last GCP training and exam in 2015.

I have 34 year-long teaching experience in university education (in Hungarian and English both for medical, optometry and IT engineer students). I am well experienced as program director in residency and PhD trainings (6 defended thesis, 2 ongoing PhD students). I am invited lecturer of large international congresses, and I have organized many international and national teaching courses.

My special clinical and scientific interests are: ocular surface diseases, glaucoma, public health, telemedical screening.

I have extensive leadership experience in clinical research: national and international medical, scientific, epidemiological and preventive projects and programs. Experience in review of articles, scientific works and project plans; participation in the evaluation of large research proposals in 6th, 7th and Horizon 2020 EU Framework Programs. I am author of 341 scientific articles (IF: 210.484) and author or editor of 10 books and 34 book chapters. I hold 742 scientific lectures, half of them in English.

I am leader in major world organizations of ophthalmology: Board Member in International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE), International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB, European Chair), South-East European Ophthalmological Society (SEEOS), Hungarian Ophthalmological Society. I was Member of the Global Outreach Committee in the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO, 2008-2014), and Chair of International Members Committee of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and now I am Member of the ARVO Chapter Affiliate Committee.
